what we handle
Pediatric Dental Care for Chesterfield Kids
Pediatric dentists complete two to three years of residency after dental school, focused on infants, children and teens. Our office pace, chairs and team are set up for kids.
Checkups and cleanings
A gentle cleaning and full exam every six months, so small problems get caught while they are still small.
Kids' teeth cleaningFirst visits by age one
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first checkup by age one or when the first tooth comes in. It is short, mostly a lap exam and a talk about bottles, brushing and teething.
Your child's first visitFluoride and sealants
Two quick, painless ways to protect new teeth, especially the back molars where cavities often start.
Fillings and crowns
Cavities happen in careful households. We fix them calmly, at a pace made for kids.
Restorative care for kidsAnxious kids and sedation
Behavior guidance is part of pediatric residency training. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are there for kids who need more than a gentle approach.
Sedation for childrenSpecial needs dentistry
Adapted visits for children with autism, sensory differences and other developmental needs. Tell us about your child and we plan the visit around them.

Emergency Pediatric Dentist in Chesterfield, VA: What to Do First
If your child has trouble breathing, bleeding that will not stop or a head injury, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 first.
For a knocked-out tooth, sudden swelling or a hard fall to the mouth, call (804) 741-2226. Our doctors are on call after hours to consult on emergent needs. The doctor decides whether your child needs emergent treatment or a referral to an emergency department.
If a permanent tooth is knocked out
- Pick the tooth up by the crown, the chewing surface, never the root.
- If it is dirty, rinse it gently with milk or saline. Do not scrub it or use soap.
- If your child is old enough to hold it in place, put it back in the socket. If not, keep it in milk.
- Call us right away. A permanent tooth has its best chance when it is replanted quickly.
If a baby tooth is knocked out
Do not put it back in. That can damage the adult tooth growing underneath.
Call us either way so the doctor can check the area.

Braces in the Same Midlothian Office
Our orthodontists see patients at the Midlothian office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, treating kids, teens and adults with braces and clear aligners. Orthodontic consultations are free.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic check by age seven. Because it is the same practice, your child's X-rays and history are already in their chart. Nobody starts over at a new practice.

Chesterfield Pediatric Dentist FAQs
The questions Chesterfield parents ask us most often.
Do you have an office in Chesterfield, VA?
Our Midlothian office at 13901 Coalfield Commons Place is in Chesterfield County, just off Route 288 near the Midlothian Turnpike exit. Most Chesterfield families are 9 to 23 minutes away.
What days do you see kids at the Midlothian office?
Wednesdays only, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Orthodontics is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For another weekday, our Short Pump and West End offices see kids Monday through Friday.
Do you accept Medicaid in Chesterfield County?
Yes. We are in-network for Cardinal Care Smiles (formerly Smiles For Children), DentaQuest and Doral at our Midlothian office, and we check your child's benefits before the visit.
When should my child first see a pediatric dentist?
By their first birthday or when the first tooth comes in, per the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Early visits are short and focus on prevention and habits.
What counts as a pediatric dental emergency?
A knocked-out or broken tooth, facial swelling, a toothache that keeps your child up, or bleeding in the mouth after a fall. For trouble breathing, bleeding that will not stop or a head injury, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 first. For everything else, call (804) 741-2226.
Can I reach a pediatric dentist after hours in Chesterfield?
Yes. Call the same number, (804) 741-2226. Our doctors are on call after hours to consult on emergent needs, and the doctor decides whether your child needs emergent treatment or a referral to an emergency department. For trouble breathing, bleeding that will not stop or a head injury, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 first.
How is a pediatric dentist different from our family dentist?
A pediatric dentist completes two to three extra years of residency focused on children, growth and behavior guidance. A family dentist can clean a child's teeth. A pediatric specialist is trained for the situations that are harder to manage.
My child is scared of the dentist. What helps?
Book early in the day, keep your own words neutral, and let us handle the introductions. Tell us about the fear when you book. We move at your child's pace, and sedation is available when a gentle approach is not enough.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with us for a first visit, a cleaning or a second opinion.
